News:Search On Store Listing

eBay is rolling back a recently released initiative that displayed eBay Store items at the end of eBay.com main search results.

eBay said the initiative had unintended consequences.

Tuesday's announcement indicated that over the next couple of weeks, eBay would make search the way it had been, with up to 30 Store inventory listings appearing only when there are 30 or fewer Auction-Style or Fixed Price listings in a buyer's search results.

eBay said buyers had found searches were producing too many results and results overall were sometimes less relevant than they used to be. eBay also said Auction-Style and Fixed Price listings were harder to find for buyers, "so sellers of these items have unintentionally been put at a disadvantage."

eBay said it would discontinue the feature while it further tests and refines it.

Tips: Reduce Listing Cost

The eBay fee listing schedule is broken up into small little fees that don't look like much by themselves but added all together it totals a ton of your cash. You spend 50¢ here & another 25¢ here before you know it your widget ad is now costing you $6.50 to advertise on eBay. You have a No Reserve on this item and it sold for $4.25. You just LOST $2.25!!

For starters let's look at ways to cut the cost of basic auction listing fees that are charged on all auctions at eBay.

Insertion Fees - Insertion fees are non-refundable this fee cannot be avoided, but you can keep the insertion fee cost to a minimum. ( except if re-listed items sell the second time around )

If you start your auction at $10.00. The insertion fee for a $9.99 starting bid is 35¢ and the insertion fee for a $10.00 starting bid is 60¢. By starting your auction item at $10.00, you lose 25¢. If you have 20 auctions at a starting bid of $10.00, you will lose $20.00 right off the bat. So List your item at $9.99 instead of $10.00

Tips: Buy Sample Before Bulk Order

Below is the excerpt of an email I received from Anita Van Wyk :

"Getting your hands on liquidated stock for mere pennies on the dollar is every ebayers dream, isn't it?

Well perhaps. You see, even thought the stock is dirt cheap, it usually comes in bulk and with some degree of risk.

Most liquidation and surplus companies have a minimum order which could sometimes run into the thousands.

If you ever consider buying a bulk lot, make sure you know the quality of the stock before you agree to buy it. One way of doing this is to go to their warehouse and inspect the stock, but we all know this is not always possible.

What you can do though is to buy a sample. Not all companies will be obliging, but you should at least try. If they won't allow you to buy a sample move on to the next company until you find someone who will. Once you've gained more experience and built up relationships with these companies you might feel more comfortable to buy your stock without a sample order though."

As you set up your eBay selling systems, make the commitment to accept all methods of payment. If not, you’ll lose out on potential customers.

The following short list should be considered your preferred method of accepting payment on eBay:

eBay: Revise Item Process

eBay lately announced it has made several changes to its Revise process so that sellers can update listings in bulk. Sellers can now revise multiple listings at the same time within My eBay using a feature called Mass Editor. They can change start prices, BIN prices, Reserves, payment methods, and can also add listing upgrades such as Bold, as well as changing Item Condition, to multiple listings at the same time. However, sellers may not change certain details for listings that have bids, purchases, or for which there are fewer than 12 hours left.

Revisions can be made on up to 10 listings of any format at once, or up to 200 listings using eBay tools Selling Manager or Selling Manager Pro.

eBay did not include duration as an attribute that sellers could change using the Mass Editor revision tool, though it does allow third-party services to offer that capability.
